What will be the result/effect if all honey bees die off?
Apparently they are dying in droves, whole colonies wiped out by some, as yet unkown, disease or affliction. What will happen to our food supply?
Sorry, Jcann, I just reported you for being a smartbutt
Honey bees don’t just make honey; they pollinate more than 90 of the tastiest flowering crops we have.
Among them are apples, nuts, avocados, soybeans, asparagus, broccoli, celery, squash, and cucumber. And lots of the sweet and tart stuff including citrus fruit, peaches, kiwi, cherries, blueberries, cranberries, strawberries, cantaloupe and other melons.
About 1/3 of human diet comes from insect-pollinated plants, and the honeybee is responsible for 80% of that pollination.
Even cattle, which feeds on alfalfa, depends on bees. So if the collapse of the honey bees worsen, we could “end up being stuck with grains and water”-Kevin Hackett, the national program leader for USDA’s bee and pollination program.
“This is the biggest general threat to our food supply”-Hackett.
